Biomedical System Engineering Lab adopts a multidisciplinary method to understand how cells regulate energy production to match energy. We are developing computational models and tools based on quantitative data to study the roles played by mitochondria in communication and coordination between the various subsystems in the cell. We utilize microscope image analysis, machine learning and computer simulations to gain in-depth understandings of the impact of energy supply and demand on mitochondrial morphological changes, analyze the interactions between mitochondria and cells, and establish a mitochondrial toxicity database, and develop mitochondrial toxicity screening platform.
